We are all beginning to understand the need to be more energy efficient and less wasteful, not just for the environment but for our pocket too.  At Burning Sensation Fireplaces we are continuously looking at these social responsibilities with a view to make your fireplace not just a beautiful focal point in your room but one that is efficient and cost effective too.  This makes us feel good about the products we sell and we hope that with this knowledge it will make you feel good about the way you keep your family warm with the products you buy from our showroom.

Open fronted gas fires can provide excellent high heat outputs, such as the Energis Ultra by Nu-Flame (pictured right), with up to 4.82kW useful heat output to the room. In addition to the great looks and heat output the Nu-flame range of fires are available with manual low level, high level touch button and hand held remote control options. Brass, black, silver and two tone frame and fret choices are available along with their complete frame range.

Glass fronted gas fires are becoming increasingly popular and have excellent efficiency ratings. The Kinder Revolution balanced flue gas fire (pictured left) can be used in homes without a traditional chimney or flue. It comes in silver, brass or black effect finishes with a fabulous selection of frets to choose from. Click on the image (left) to be taken to our High Efficiency page.

Electric fires are ideal for homes that do not have a chimney or flue. They’re also great if you don’t need a big heat output but still crave that cosy glow within your fireplace. When used on the effect only setting running costs are minimal particularly those with LED lighting effects. Choose from contemporary styles like the Celsi (right) or a more traditional design.

Solid hardwood surrounds and beams are generally made from sustainable sources including European Oak and American Oak.  Designs vary from the very traditional oak beam over the inglenook, to a more contemporary styled fireplace surround.

Ultiflame Frontier

Wood-burning & Multi-fuel stoves! These are regarded as carbon neutral appliances as the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere when burned is approximately the same as that absorbed by a tree during its growth. It is also a renewable resource particularly when fuel is derived from plantations and cultivated woodland. Wood-burning efficiency can even be achieved in more urban environments with the use of a smoke control kit.

MDF surrounds are a more cost effective alternative to solid hardwood and it’s great to know that much of the MDF is manufactured from what could be waste wood-chips, shavings and sawdust. The Benidorm surround (above) is a beautiful example of what can be achieved with MDF & is available to see on display in the showroom.  A matching mirror is also available.

New Rules Regarding the European Energy Index (EEI) Labeling directive & Ecodesign regulations: The EU has brought into effect new labeling requirements for gas, solid fuel, wood burning, multi-fuel & biomass appliances (space heaters), whereby a label will need to be displayed alongside the product at point of sale in the showroom to provide consumers with the Energy Efficiency Index (EEI). The look of the label is similar to that of household white goods. You will also find the EEI label on each manufacturers website & within the installation instruction manuals of the appliance. To calculate the Energy Efficiency Index, which in turn determines the energy class, comparisons are made between Biomass pellet appliances, woodburning stoves, multi-fuel stoves and gas fires. Whilst gas fires can never compete with Biomass, for those who do not desire the work of a solid fuel burning appliance or indeed have a flue suitable but want a good heat output for the room, this can still be achieved with a gas appliance including open fronted and glass fronted versions. Manufacturers of high efficiency gas appliances spend a lot of time and money in ensuring their products provide the consumer with a great heat output & efficiency. Electric appliances & decorative gas appliances under 3kW heat output are not eligible for this scheme, as they cannot compete to achieve an EEI label. These products will be described as: Electric - ‘this product is only suitable for use in well insulated spaces and occasional use’. Decorative gas fires: ‘This product is not suitable for primary heating purposes’. Further information is also available in the showroom.
